Hurray! The efforts of San Martin de Amacayacu to protect their ancestral lands have been rewarded with the BN/DeStem Development Prize 2009 (http://www.bndestem.nl/dossiers/ontwikkelingsprijs – in Dutch)! From amongst 58 promising nominees from all over the world, the community´s proposal to build 12 small scale fish breeding ponds as an alternative source of income for an equal number of motivated families was labeled original and specific, and definitly worth it! On the 31st of May, the Small World Foundation board members in the Netherlands will be proud to receive the prize on behalf of the community. Let the digging and construction begin!
